Julia Bates, DVM (Internal Medicine)

Dr. Bates is our MOVES veterinary internal medicine partner, available to perform consultations and advanced internal medicine procedures at Spartan Animal Hospital. Dr. Bates is an internal medicine specialist with strong interests in cardiopulmonary, immune mediated and endocrine diseases. She completed her undergrad at Montana State University then graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed an internship at the Animal Medical Center in NYC, after which she was accepted into a residency program at Michigan State University. Dr. Bates is Board Certified through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Her clinical research interest is in hypoadrenocortism (Addison's disease). Dr. Bates, along with other industry colleagues, recently had a retrospective study, "Lower Initial Dose Desoxycorticosterone Pivalate for Treatment of Canine Primary Hypoadrenocorticism," accepted for publication in the Australian Veterinary Journal.

Lydia Soydan, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)

Dr. Soydan is our MOVES veterinary medicine partner available to perform cardiology services at Spartan Animal Hospital. Originally from the Northeast, Dr. Soydan was born and raised in a small town in Southeastern Connecticut. She obtained her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Cornell University in upstate New York, then returned to Connecticut for two years to complete both rotating and Cardiology-focused internships. In 2015, she relocated to the Midwest, completing her Cardiology training with a three-year residency at the University
of Wisconsin – Madison.

She has stayed in the Midwest ever since, practicing Cardiology for the past six years at a Specialty Referral Center in the Chicagoland area. Throughout that time, she has remained rooted in Wisconsin, where she lives with her husband, stepchildren and two cats (Daxter and Topal). Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, cooking, and visiting/renovating the new family “cabin” up North.

Dr. Soydan is passionate about all facets of cardiac disease. Above all else, she values the role that education and communication play in providing the best possible outcomes for patients. She maintains a practical and up-to-date approach to managing chronic heart disease, with particular emphasis on taking a collaborative approach to patient care. She is happy and excited to offer quality cardiac care to her
local community.
Dr. Soydan joined MOVES in November of 2021.

Advanced Orthopedic Procedures

Spartan Animal Hospital utilizes the services of a traveling veterinarian to perform TTA, TPLO, luxating patella surgery and fracture repair right here in our hospital.

Endoscopy/Laparoscopy

Spartan Animal Hospital is able to perform a variety of endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures for dogs, cats and exotic species.
